Alien Refugee

Compared to yours, my body is an alien one;
I am a refugee in an alien world.
The place I come from is so far away,
I cannot find my way back.

I was taken from my mate and my offspring;
My friends witnessed my abduction, but
Were unable to help me;
All wept when I did not return.

When I came to you, I was afraid, but
Because you were kind to me, I came to love you.
You whispered sweet nothings in my ear, and
I was so flattered I tried to learn your words.

When you left me alone I was sad, so
I called out to you loudly, but
You did not come for a long time, and
Finally you came and comforted me.

When you abandoned me, my heart was broken.
My alien body has no tear glands, so
You cannot see me cry, but
When I am alone, I weep silently.

I long for my home and my family, but
Even though I am still very young,
It is too far, and I cannot go alone;
There is no one who remembers where it is.

Someone has come for me;
I feel a pinch in my neck and grow weary;
I feel my body relax, and I fall and lay on my side;
Now I sleep, never to awaken again.

I was a beautiful wild caught parrot;
Twice you took my life;
It was never very important to you, but
The life you took from me was all I had.
